BOOK REVIEW: The Wicked King by Holly Black

Hi, friends! I’m back with another book review!

Super grateful to Pansing for sending me a copy of the Wicked King in exchange for an honest review💕

The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)

Author: Holly Black

Pages: 336

Blurb from Goodreads:

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.
The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

My thoughts on this book:

As usual, Holly Black’s writing is truly magical and the world of Elfhame she weaves into the pages are so alluring and enchanting. 😍✨

I was pretty confused when I started this book probably because I read the first book a year ago but the plot of this book was pretty slow in the beginning if I do say so myself as there weren’t many exciting scenes. Although I wished for more action during the beginning, the second half of the book was really intense and kept me at the edge of my seat.😍

I really love the complexity of Cardan’s character and I could help but wish to have a scene in his POV just to know what’s going on in that mysterious head of his😂
Jude was also such a fantastic character, her strong will and bravery really struck out to me even more and I can’t help but admire her 😍 Also Nicasia is such a cool character and I’d love to know more about her backstory and I definitely hope she makes an appearance in the final book!

After reading the Cruel Prince, I thought I’d be more prepared for the shocking plot twists and cliffhangers, but the story shook me to the core and left me dying to read the last book😭 the love-hate/sexual tension going on between Jude and Cardan has me completely freaking out and omg I can’t even with them 😂

But overall, a very well written book filled with suspense, thrill, and a dash of steamy romance. I absolutely can’t wait to read the last book!

Would I recommend this book?
YES! Only if you’ve read the Cruel Prince, of course,😂 I rated it a 4/5 stars

Until the next blog post,
