ARC REVIEW: Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko

Hi friends! Today I’m going to be reviewing an amazing book written by Jordan Ifueko called Raybearer!

Firstly, I’d like to give a big thank you to Pansing for graciously providing me an ARC copy of this book and this book will soon be available in all good bookstores soon!✨

Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko

Release Date: April 14, 2020
Author: Jordan Ifueko
Goodreads Blurb:

Nothing is more important than loyalty.
But what if you’ve sworn to protect the one you were born to destroy?

Tarisai has always longed for the warmth of a family. She was raised in isolation by a mysterious, often absent mother known only as The Lady. The Lady sends her to the capital of the global empire of Aritsar to compete with other children to be chosen as one of the Crown Prince’s Council of 11. If she’s picked, she’ll be joined with the other Council members through the Ray, a bond deeper than blood.

That closeness is irresistible to Tarisai, who has always wanted to belong somewhere. But The Lady has other ideas, including a magical wish that Tarisai is compelled to obey: Kill the Crown Prince once she gains his trust. Tarisai won’t stand by and become someone’s pawn—but is she strong enough to choose a different path for herself?

My thoughts on this book:

I can’t stress over how AMAZING this story was! It was truly beautiful and uniquely weird in a good way. I wasn’t expecting it to be such an intricate tale full of magic and hope. In the first chapter of the book, I was immediately captivated by the melodic writing and the magic brimming from the first few pages 😍

The story was written so beautifully, I think it was the melodic writing that kept me hooked for the first part. The author has a special way with words and really painted this wonderful story so vividly in my mind. There was an almost chilling and haunting aspect to this book that gave this book its edge and complexity. The story and plot seemed very original and unique to me so it definitely drew me in from the start. There were some elements that I had read before but the author was able to seamlessly incorporate some classic genie tales to this book.

Tarisai is someone who’s incredibly trusting and loyal, although that loyalty gets tested, she’s smart and I admire many of her qualities! She is also headstrong and witty, making me gasp at her decisions in several parts of the book where MULTIPLE mind-blowing plot twists happen. I loved seeing her character grow from this insecure and innocent girl to a badass woman 🙌

The other characters in this book were really interesting and complex as well 😍 one of my fave characters was Woo In, a Redemptor from Songland, the piece of backstory the author provided for us in this book made my heart crack into a million pieces and I would love to read a novella or prequel about him! He’s 100% a cinnamon roll 😍

Overall, this was an AMAZING book! The writing, plot, and storyline were SO WELL WRITTEN. And THE CHARACTERS. I’m still shook over how beautiful and complex the story was. I definitely plan to pick up a finished copy when it hits bookstores this April! ❤️

I rated it a 5/5 ⭐!

Would I recommend this book?
YES! Definitely check it out! And I’d love to hear your thoughts on it as well!

I hope all of you have a awesome day! ✨

Until the next blog post,
– the Joyful Reader❤️
