Divided by their castes. United by their vengeance.

Iraya has spent her life in a cell, but every day brings her closer to freedom—and vengeance.

Jazmyne is the queen’s daughter, but unlike her sister before her, she has no intention of dying to strengthen her mother’s power.

Sworn enemies, these two witches enter a precarious alliance to take down a mutual threat. But revenge is a bloody pursuit, and nothing is certain—except the lengths they will go to win this game.

Deadly, fierce, magnetically addictive: this Jamaican-inspired fantasy debut is a thrilling journey where dangerous magic reigns supreme and betrayal lurks beneath every word.
My thoughts on this book:

WOW. This book was phenomenal. Before I get into my thoughts on the story, the cover is just so stunning, I had to take some time to fully absorb it’s beauty. Okay onto the review!

The writing was *chef’s kiss* it was just beautiful and drew me in right from the very beginning. I am absolutely in love with the writing style. It was such unique and stunning writing, I’m still in awe.

The worldbuilding was a bit confusing to me as there was quite a lot of information to take in at once. There were many terms that I wasn’t used to so I kind of wished there was a glossary or guide in the beginning. Since this book had a Jamaican influence to it, according to the author’s note in the beginning, I really enjoyed reading and being immersed in a whole new culture. The magic system was special and unlike anything I’ve ever read. It’s incorporated with the fable of witches which I found interesting. I have to admit that it took me quite a while to understand a lot of the magical elements and terms but I managed to get through it.

I loved the two POVs of both the main characters, Jazmyne and Iraya, they are two powerful women who have had a different upbringing. I really enjoyed reading the conflicting differences and their character development. Their contrasts really worked well with the story, with one being the daughter of a doyenne and the other being a slave with her magic bound. Kirdan, one of the other main characters, was extremely fascinating to me. He seemed shrouded in some sort of mystery that I hope will be unveiled more in the next book.

The ending of this book is keeping me on my toes and nervous for the next book! Even though the plot twists were slowly eased in, they still provided a shock factor and startling element.

Overall this was a beautiful fantasy book with a unusual but fascinating magic system that I really adored 😍 it had so many interesting plot twists that kept me at the edge of my seat and on top of that the characters are absolutely incredible and THE WRITING!! Don’t get me started on how beautiful it is 😭

I rated it a 4/5 🌟
