BOOK REVIEW: These Infinite Threads by Tahereh Mafi

Hi friends!
I’m back for another review! This time it’s the sequel to This Woven Kingdom, These Infinite Threads by Tahereh Mafi! You can read my review of This Woven Kingdom here. Thank you so much to Pansing for sending me a copy of this breathtaking sequel! You can find this book in all good bookstores if you’re interested in snagging a copy for yourself!

Please be forewarned that there may be some mild spoilers in this ramble of a review so consider this your warning!

Author: Tahereh Mafi
Blurb: With the heat of a kiss, the walls between Alizeh, the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom, and Kamran, the crown prince of the Ardunian empire, have crumbled. And so have both of their lives.

Kamran’s grandfather, the king of Ardunia, lays dead, the terrible secret of his deal with the devil exposed to the world. Cyrus, the mysterious copper-haired royal, has stolen Alizeh away to Tulan, the neighboring kingdom where he rules. Cyrus has made his own deal with the devil—one that would require Alizeh to betray her feelings for Kamran if she’s to reclaim the Jinn throne.

Alizeh wants nothing to do with Cyrus, or his deal with Iblees. But with no means of escaping Tulan, and with the tantalizing promise of fulfilling her destiny as the heir to the Jinn, she’s forced to wonder whether she can set aside her emotions—and finally become the queen her people need.

Kamran, meanwhile, is picking up the pieces of his broken kingdom. Facing betrayal at every turn, all he knows for certain is that he must go to Tulan to avenge his grandfather. He can only hope that Alizeh will be waiting for him there—and that she’s not yet become queen of Tulan.

My thoughts:
The writing as usual with all of Tahereh Mafi’s books is absolutely PHENOMENAL, my pea-sized brain couldn’t handle all the beautiful vocabulary and often had to look up some words BUT nevertheless, the writing painted enchanting and vivid scenes (I’m still shell-shocked over the description of Tulan, SO FREAKING INSANE) I was really invested in the world of Tulan and I’m glad we got to explore a little of it in this book!

I felt so much more chemistry between Alizeh and Cyrus from their initial interactions than I felt with Alizeh and Kamran throughout the first book so…it’s safe to say that I hope their endgame because THEIR FREAKING CHEMISTRY HAD ME SCREAMING INTO MY PILLOW. I kid you not, they had me giggling and sobbing in the span of a few seconds. Cyrus is such a complex morally grey character and I can’t even begin to think about how this character was thought out because the way he speaks makes me want to throw myself off a building. Alizeh and Kamran, on the other hand, barely did anything in this book even though they were the main protagonists and I found myself getting bored in Kamran’s POV because he was just mostly moping around with no real purpose and added nothing to the story.

This was a very character-driven book for me because throughout this book the only interesting plot points were in the beginning and there weren’t any shocking plot twists or incidents that really changed the course of the story. Alizeh and Kamran didn’t really do much adventuring which I felt contributed to why I was bored with some of the chapters because everything was occurring at the same place again and again. Cyrus basically carried the whole story I’m not gonna lie, along with his interactions with Alizeh, and the writing tipped my rating of this book to a whopping 4.5 stars/5 stars (yep it is that good)

Overall, I’m just in awe and I need the next book ASAP! The story was engaging enough to keep me moving forward but if you didn’t like the characters (or character, *cough* Cyrus), I would find it hard to continue the story. The writing and worldbuilding are done spectacularly so that kept me shocked over how someone’s mind even comes up with these stunning descriptions and phrases.

My Rating: 4.5/5 stars!

Would I recommend this book? YESSSS PLEASE DO this is an enchanting tale filled with incredible writing and the characters are just insanely well written

I hope all of you have a magical day! ✨

Until the next blog post,
