MY THOUGHTS ON WW: WARBRINGER

“Human courage was different from Amazon bravery. She saw that now. For all the suspicion and derision she’d heard from her mother and her sisters about the mortal world, Diana couldn’t help but admire the people with whom she traveled. Their lives were violent, precarious, fragile, but they fought for them anyway, and held to the hope that their brief stay on this earth might count for something. That faith was worth preserving.” -Leigh Bardugo, Warbringer.

Hello friends! I’m back with my second blog post which is a book review about my last read, Wonder Woman: Warbringer by the talented Leigh Bardugo! *squeals excitedly

So this book is part of a series called DC Icons that will be written by some of my fave authors a.k.a. Sarah J. Maas and Leigh Bardugo. I was obviously very excited to get my hands on my own copy of Warbringer when it came out. I watched Wonder Woman a few months before this book came out and I still got to say the book is always better!

The other DC Icons books center around three other superheroes, Batman, Superman, and Catwoman (although I’m slightly confused, is she a superhero, a villian, or neither?)

SYPNOSIS FOR WW: WARBRINGER BY LEIGH BARDUGO:

Daughter of immortals.

Princess Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mortal. Diana will soon learn that she has rescued no ordinary girl, and that with this single brave act, she may have doomed the world.

Daughter of death.

Alia Keralis just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn’t know she is being hunted by people who think her very existence could spark a world war. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together.

Two girls will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. Tested beyond the bounds of their abilities, Diana and Alia must find a way to unleash hidden strengths and forge an unlikely alliance. Because if they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

Omg I can't wait to read Leigh Bardugo's new Wonder Woman book! It looks sooo good!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although I felt like the first few chapters could have included more action and insight into Diana’s world. But I really loved the characters and their personalities and sort of relatable lives. The friendship between Alia and Diana is just golden and the way they converse is also kind of hilarious because here you have a modern girl from modern civilization and a six foot tall girl who has been living in an island that the Greek gods created. There was quite a few Greek-ish mythology mentions here and there which really made the entire book really interesting for me.

There was a small dash of romance in this book as well but I didn’t really ship the couples to be honest, I was more focused on how Diana wanted to impress her Amazon sisters and her mother which is quite relatable. It broke my heart to see her torn between two decisions, to save a person she didn’t even know or earn the respect and honor from her sisters.

The best thing about this book is the female empowerment and its diversity. Nothing makes a good book than strong female friendships. This book showed feminism, friendship, and a heck lot of bravery.

Overall, this was a very decent book, it is definitely one of my favorite reads this year.
